Noggin began as a joint venture between MTV Networks (the owners of Nickelodeon) and Sesame Workshop. The Noggin brand started out with a TV channel and an interactive website. While Noggin was run by a completely separate team from the Nick Jr. block, some Nick Jr. shows were re-aired on the network, mainly during a block called "Nick Jr. on Noggin" that premiered in 2003. In 2015, Noggin was revived as a streaming service. HistoryThe first service released under the Noggin name was a TV channel in 1999. At first, its programming was mainly aimed at pre-teens, with a block of preschool shows airing in the morning. In 2002, Noggin extended its preschool block to last for 12 hours each day. The rest of the day was reserved for a new block called "The N" (standing for Noggin), where Noggin aired its older-skewing shows. In September 2009, the Noggin brand was temporarily discontinued, as the network was replaced by the 24-hour Nick Jr. Channel. In March 2015, Noggin was relaunched as a streaming service featuring shows from the original Noggin channel. Since 2020, the service has released its own exclusive shows. |
