Pinwheel is a preschool series and the first-ever show to air on Nickelodeon. It was aimed at preschoolers aged 2-5. Each episode features short puppet segments, songs, skits, and animation from around the world. The show premiered on December 1, 1977, on QUBE's C-3 channel in Columbus, Ohio. On April 1, 1979, the C-3 channel was expanded into a national network called Nickelodeon, and Pinwheel was broadcast to a wider audience. Episodes of the series continued (on a bigger budget) until 1984.

When the Nick Jr. block was launched on January 4, 1988, Pinwheel started to air exclusively during the block. Its last airing on the Nick Jr. block was on June 29, 1990.

Plot[]

Pinwheel takes place in a quaint Victorian-styled boarding house known simply as Pinwheel House, owned by the motherly fortune-teller Aurelia, in which the house is powered by a pinwheel on one of the peaks. Every episode has the inhabitants of Pinwheel House discussing various concepts to children, singing songs, as well as animation from countries like Europe and Canada, as well as in-house stop motion.
